Dome Hotel Riga

The Dome Hotel is a charming, cozy five-star boutique property situated in the heart of Riga’s Old Town, tucked away in a 400-year-old landmark building. Some of its original elements have been preserved and restored, including a 17th century wooden staircase, as well as wall frescoes, doors, and windows.

In fact, during the hotel’s renovation, archeologists discovered building fragments underneath the cellar floor dating to the start of the 13th century!

This special building has seen many style revamps, including Baroque, Rococo, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. A former residence until the end of the 18th century, the Dome’s 15 rooms combine traditional handiwork and modern design elements with state-of-the-art engineering and technology.

Thanks to the talent of award-winning Latvian architect Reinis Liepiņš, the Dome is a stunning place to call home while exploring Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The hotel keeps sustainability top of mind by using energy-efficient technologies, eliminating single-use plastics, promoting local suppliers and fair-trade products, preserving green spaces surrounding the grounds and conserving water via responsible water waste management. During the building’s 1870 reconstruction, special attention was placed on functionality, comfort, and environmental importance while maintaining historical authenticity.

I had a stunning view of the Dome Cathedral outside one of the windows (all windows open for fresh air flow).

The Dome Hotel Rooftop Terrace, Riga

In summer, the rooftop terrace restaurant opens for diners to enjoy Dome Cathedral and Daugava river views. Executive Chef Janis Zvirbulis aims to keep his dishes flavourful, to allow for the natural flavour of local ingredients to shine through.

Close to the river, you’ll find one of Europe’s most famous farmer’s markets, the Riga Central Market, a 15-minute stroll from the hotel. Enjoy a night at the Latvian National Opera or take in a ballet or concert nearby.

Cute, compact Riga also has some pretty green spaces. Across the Vanšu bridge lies Kipsala, a former fisherman’s island, with lovely views back to the Old Town as you walk alongside the Daugava river. With an abundance of revitalized wooden houses, this is now the city’s poshest district, with trendy restaurants and live/work lofts.

I was a guest of the Dome Hotel for the purpose of experiencing the hotel for coverage. Opinions, as always, remain my own. Non-watermarked images courtesy of the Dome Hotel.
