KEEN just released a brand-new walking shoe that comes after three years of development and over five thousand miles of testing: the WK400. This shoe combines revolutionary technology with KEEN comfort to provide a “rolling” type of momentum as you walk.

The new kicks are the brainchild of Rory Fuerst Jr., KEEN’s Global Product Innovation Creative Director, after he survived a traumatic skiing accident that left him unable to walk for several months. He soon realized that walking should never be taken for granted, and more than a means to get around.
Being able to walk again improved his mental outcome and in his words, saved his life, inspiring him to share the power of walking with the world.

Before I wrecked my leg I never really thought about walking. It was just something you did to get places. It wasn’t until I couldn’t do it anymore and my whole life was turned upside down did I realize what walking meant to me – and us, as humans. My crash put me in one of the darkest places I had ever been. It was walking that got me out of it. This project was birthed from that tragedy.— Rory Fuerst Jr.
Together with a long-time friend, Rory Jr. began to delve into the science behind walking and discovered that the body and legs act as a “pendulum that causes the foot to move in a constant arc” when you walk. Walking is different than running, and through research, they both saw the need for a truly revolutionary walking shoe. And so the WK400 was born.

The WK400’s have a removable PU insole, offset lacing to relieve pressure on the top of your feet, a breathable mesh lining and a secure fit. I did notice that I had to size up a half size, but KEEN offers a 30-day trial period to ensure proper fit and satisfaction. They also ship for free on orders of over $50.
The women’s WK400 comes in Fawn/Peach Whip, Yellow/Black, Vapor/Azure Blue and Triple Black. The men’s version is available in Steel Grey/Scarlet Ibis, Austern/Red Carpet, Yellow/Black and Triple Black.
