If you’ve grown to love Vancouver’s city-wide, car-free day (one that’s visited by over 300,000 attendees), you’ll be interested to learn that this year’s events are heading indoors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After weighing the situation at hand, the Car Free Day team decided that with safety and health in mind, the solution was to have it online this year! 2020 has been a strange journey so far, but The West End, Main Street, and Commercial Drive events will continue to celebrate local arts and culture digitally.
Online is the best alternative to cancelling the event outright, and when it’s safe to do so, they’ll host a variety of smaller pop-up events and activities to reclaim the space traditionally devoted to cars. Car culture is not off the hook this year!
We encourage those who are passionate about these issues and want to see a safer, more people-focused Vancouver to get in touch with us – we have many volunteer opportunities in 2020 and plan to dream big despite COVID-19 setbacks.
For vendors and other participants in the festivals, please visit the vendor page for more details regarding how you can be involved and what to do if you’ve already applied.
The organizers are also asking for financial support from community members and local businesses that can help through donations or sponsorship leading up to the event (contact via info@carfreevancouver.org).
