Yesterday afternoon, Café Il Nido opened its lovely patio for a summer menu sampling. Owner Franco Felice was on hand to pour a selection of wines while the canapés from the restaurant’s latest menu made the rounds.
It was a lovely way to enjoy friendly conversation while sampling some of the nicest prosciutto-wrapped melon that I’ve had in a long time. Their secret is the amazing olive oil used to combine the flavours so well with a glass of crisp Chardonnay, perfect for celebrating yesterday’s 3rd Annual International Chardonnay Day.
Another delicious appetizer was the apple, walnut, and cheese on crisp toast pairing. Simple, yet all so rich in flavour, especially the apple compote.
While Il Nido’s comfortable dining area can seat over 50 customers, the patio can also accommodate over 40 people. The greenery keeps the patio private considering the restaurant’s heart-of-downtown Vancouver location.
Café Il Nido has been open for 24 years running, keeping Vancouverites content with a varied menu featuring pasta dishes and Ocean Wise-sanctioned dishes with a West coast flair.
As well, gluten-free and vegetarian menu options are available. Local and international wines, plus cocktails complete the offerings.
I’ve been to several menu tastings here before and as always, the freshness of the ingredients as well as the flavours don’t disappoint. And after a busy day at work, there’s nothing more enjoyable than sipping a glass of wine with a meal at one of Il Nido’s patio tables.
