Octopus bacon-wrapped scallop canape

It’s not that easy to pick from the multitude of Dine Out Vancouver restaurant offerings this year! Fortunately there’s a sneak peek event featuring eight Dine Out restaurants plus wine pairings. Not only that, but you’ll have the chance to explore the Vancouver Aquarium by night. I’ve had the chance to visit the Belugas at night and witness their sheer beauty against the dark winter sky.

On January 20 at 7 pm, the Vancouver Aquarium in support of Ocean Wise is proud to host A Sustainable Plate & Pairing Challenge. During this inaugural event, eight DOV restaurant chefs will vie for top food and BC VQA wine pairing honours.

You’ll be able to stroll through the Aquarium’s galleries while tasting some of Vancouver’s finest food and BC’s VQA wines. There will be a guest panel of judges who will make their selections, however guests will be able to vote in the People’s Choice category for favourite menu pairing.

As if that weren’t enough, I’ve heard that over $1,000 in door prizes will be handed out, including restaurant gift certificates and overnight accommodation at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel!

Judges Panel includes:

Anthony Sedlak, Canadian chef – host of Food Network’s The Main, author of The Main Cookbook

Andrew Morrison, EditorScout Magazine

Tim Pawsey, food and wine reviewer/journalistHired Belly, Vancouver Courier, co-editor Zagat Vancouver, North Shore News and Taste Magazine

Sounds like a great event. I think this may be a good way to check out a lot of restaurants in the course of one evening. Those food photos are making me hungry!
