Andersen Hotel-13

The Andersen Hotel is a cozy and stylish hotel just moments from the cafés, shops and restaurants of vibrant Vesterbro (Meatpacking District), and just a few minutes on foot to the main train station.

The Andersen (and sister property Absalon Hotel) are situated on the same street, in historic buildings dating to the early 1900’s. Purchased by the Andersen family in 1977, the hotel is named after third-generation family member/General Manager Karin Andersen’s grandmother.

Rooms

Each of the 69 rooms and suites at this four-star property offer thoughtfully-designed touches, from wallpaper and cushions to interior elements by Designers Guild and world-renowned designer Philippe Starck.

Guests can select their own vibe from a ‘menu’ of rooms: Cool, Brilliant, Wonderful, or Amazing, and from there a preferred style: Princess, Mermaid, or Emperor.

While the Princess rooms include vibrant purple and magenta touches, the Mermaid offers vivid turquoise and lime to symbolize water. The Emperor combines a soothing blue palette with vibrant magenta for a touch of luxury.

My Amazing (Princess) Junior Suite features a cozy sleeper sofa (suitable for young children), a small glass accent table plus a flat screen TV on one side, with a small working desk, queen bed, and closet space on the other. A couple of black and white accent prints face the back wall, with sleek black lamps throughout the room.

Light hardwood flooring contrasts nicely with the vivid magenta drapes, sofa, accent pillows and area rug. Windows can be opened for fresh air, otherwise an airco system is in place, and operates when windows are shut.

In the bathroom are Molton Brown amenities (one of our favourite luxury brands).

This Green Key Certified property aims to reduce its environmental footprint by offering a few token gifts when guests decline housekeeping, including 50% off bike rental, a 100 DKK drink voucher for the Absalon Hotel bar, or a bag of sweets.

Other Andersen perks include all-day free coffee drinks and Emeyu tea in the lobby, a wine hour from 5-6 daily (a free glass of wine in the lobby) as well as their Concept 24 check-in (keep the room for 24 hours, regardless of check-in time).

A Knitting Corner

If you’re feeling crafty, check out the basket filled with yarn that the hotel has donated in support of “Knitting for the Homeless”. Samvaerk, a local yarn shop/craft cafe in the neighbourhood, offers knitting workshops, community events, and courses. The shop offers a 10% discount on yarn for hotel guests.

Arriving from Copenhagen Airport is an affordable, swift 13-minute ride to the Central Station (København H). From there, it’s less than a five minutes’ walk to the Andersen.

The Andersen Hotel is located at Helgolandsgade 12 in Copenhagen.

I was a guest of the Andersen Hotel for the purpose of this feature. Opinions, as always, are my own.
