BC Spot Prawn Festival 2010

The Spot Prawn Festival is a free family event. Tickets for the prawn boil include a plate of fresh off the boat spot prawns, a side salad dish, and Terra Breads to mop it all up with. Included is a BC wine sample tasting as well as Mogiana coffee samples.

After your’ve feasted on the day’s catch, grab a bagful off the fishing boats ($12/lb.) and get creative at home. We’re fans of spot prawns on the BBQ. One minute on each side with a light brushing of olive oil, and you’re set to go!

Spot Prawns

This festival kicks off the yearly spot prawn season, which continues on for six to eight weeks, allowing the public an opportunity to buy live, locally sourced, and sustainable prawns directly off the dock. Normal arrival time at the Fishermen’s Wharf dock is 1 pm, but I’ve experienced long line-ups that start before then and if the boat is delayed, it sometimes gets close to 2 pm before your prawns will be bagged and ready to go.
