You never forget your first Banksy. For me, it was New Orleans, in late 2018. I noticed several fellow travellers with cameras in hand at a corner outside the downtown core.

Then I realized why: Banksy’s Nola, aka Rain Girl, created in commemoration of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation to the city in 2005, stood right in front of us, painted on a corner wall.

You can then imagine my excitement when I discovered that the elusive UK street artist’s work has arrived in Vancouver after its most recent stop in Montreal!
Billed as the “world’s largest collection of privately-owned Banksy art,” The Art of Banksy Without Limits includes original and authenticated pieces from the mysterious figure, including the famous Girl with Balloon.

The Art of Banksy Without Limits is a travelling exhibition, and has already made waves across Asia, Australia, Europe, the US, and South America. And according to its organizers, the collection is valued at $35 million.
Banksy, whose works have critiqued capitalism, war, and the commodification of art itself, has been made accessible through this fascinating immersive experience. He draws inspiration from Blek Le Rat (a French pioneer of street art), as well as Andy Warhol, Shepard Fairey, and Keith Haring.
There are over 200 pieces to admire, including 60 certified originals, authenticated by Pest Control, the body that issues Banksy Certificates of Authenticity.
Don’t miss the room on the second floor in back, Crude Oils Exhibition, 2005, a series of modified oil paintings purchased by the artist at flea markets. Here, Banksy adds his own artistic statements to each painting, demonstrating sharp wit through subversive humour.
The exhibit includes prints, lithographs, photos, sculptures, murals, an infinity mirror room plus a hologram installation making its Western Canadian premiere. Banksy’s art contains recurring themes of consumerism, the dominant class, immigration, injustice, and war.

Key Highlights
Infinity Room – Step into a mirrored space where Banksy’s art surrounds you from every angle.
Dismaland Bemusement Park Simulation – A recreation of Banksy’s 2015 dystopian theme park that critiques consumer culture.
