Rare Finds is an annual fundraising cocktail party to benefit the Rare Disease Foundation. This year, the gala benefit returns for the sixth time and will be held at Villa Amato in the Olympic Village, hosting many of Vancouver’s top chefs, mixologists, and pastry artists with beautiful views of the North Shore.

The cornerstone of the event is a friendly yet spirited competition between Vancouver’s finest chefs and mixologists competing for your votes.

A rare disease is classified as a condition affecting fewer than 1 in 2,000 people. There are over 7,000 diagnosed rare diseases and many more undiagnosed diseases. About 1 in 12 people (nearly three million Canadians) have a rare disease.

Most known rare disorders are severe and chronic; many are considered degenerative and life threatening. Rare diseases are poorly categorized — many conditions remain unnamed. Those without a specific diagnosis may be denied access to necessary medical support services.

The Rare Disease Foundation is committed to growing and developing a community that provides a new approach for rare disease research and care. The organization provides funding to inspired clinicians and scientists for their patient-focused projects.

All proceeds are distributed within three weeks of the event for immediate impact. As a media sponsor for the fourth year in a row, I’m proud to stand behind an organization vital to the outcome of so many.
