Decor is modern, with a few prints on the walls and accent lamps by the bedside. Two tiny reading lamps are contained within the leather headboard; there’s plenty of USB/standard outlets around the room and at the work desk for charging tech.

Many rooms overlook either the internal gardens or the city skyline. Our bed is super comfortable and the airco system is whisper quiet for quality sleeps.

In the morning, we open the balcony door and enjoy some fresh air with a cup of coffee (a Nespresso machine, coffee pods, and teas are located above the mini fridge area, where complimentary bottles of water are also available).

Dining

Corinne is the hotel’s main restaurant, helmed by Executive Chef Joseph Krauss. His approachable yet elevated menu highlights American classics fused with Southern Texan and Gulf Coast influences. We enjoyed a light breakfast here one morning (weekends feature a brunch menu).

Anaqua Garden Bar

Anaqua Garden Bar fuses Latin tradition with Japanese culinary techniques to create small sharable plates and botanical-forward cocktails. Brisket Bao Buns, Guacapoke, Tempura Shrimp, Sushi Tacos and Chirashi Bowls are just a few of the fusion dishes on the menu. All can be enjoyed beneath the hotel’s historic Anaqua tree—a 42-foot-tall landmark that serves as the centerpiece of this serene outdoor space. Both dining venues offer a weekday happy hour.

Wellness and relaxation are equally emphasized at the Plaza. The Spa Plaza San Antonio is housed in two beautifully restored 19th-century homes, the Elmendorf-Tyler House and the Staffel House dating to the 1850’s. The charming buildings include six treatment rooms set within a garden for relaxing and rejuvenating. Here you’ll also find a Zen Lounge and a Wellness Concierge.

Whether you choose a deeply relaxing massage, a therapeutic facial, or a holistic body treatment, the spa experience feels personal and rejuvenating, utilizing South Texan massage oils for a true local experience to calm both mind and body. A 50-minute Plaza Signature Massage was my treatment of choice.

This massage, as with all treatments, begins at the Zen Lounge, where herbal teas, cookies, nuts and dried fruit are offered pre- and post-treatment. There’s also infrared- and facial massage masks available to enjoy while here.

Not quite Swedish, not quite deep tissue, masseuse Cristy’s technique incorporates gentle muscle movement and release while adding pressure to relax and restore the body. I’m completely relaxed by the time the three chimes of a small bronze bell gently clang in the room. There’s nothing like a relaxing massage after a long day of travel, and I highly recommend the Plaza Spa staff to help bring your body and mind to a blissful state.
