TD Jazz Festival banner

As the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival draws nearer, Vancouverites are given new choices in both concerts and venues. New to the Jazz Fest are the Marquee Series at The Centre, the BC Honda Dealers Vogue Theatre Series, and the BC Honda Dealers Venue Series. All shows are set to go on sale on April 30.

Here’s a run-down of the three different series:

Steve Earle and The Dukes (and Duchesses) featuring Allison Moorer
One of alternative-country’s edgiest and most influential singer/songwriters and multiple Grammy award winner.

Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society
A New York City 18-piece big band that draws on modern jazz, rock and classical music. Emotionally charged and cutting edge.

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue “Backatown” Tour
Mesmerizing New Orleans funk, rock, R&B, jazz, and soul. “Shorty’s a genius, he plays his ass off.” – Lenny Kravitz

June 28
Lucinda Williams
This three-time Grammy winning singer/songwriter has worked with Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello, and John Prine.

June 29
Ana Moura
Portuguese fado singer with non-stop charisma who’s worked with both Prince and The Rolling Stones.

June 30
The Bad Plus
Mixes the sensibilities of post-’60s jazz and rock. Gracefully blended originals with hints of Nirvana, The Pixies, Black Sabbath and Ornette Coleman.

July 1
Christian McBride & Inside Straight
Christian’s Grammy award winning quartet emphasizes hard swing, bluesy groove tunes, hip Latin romps, and soaring solos.

July 2
Gonzalo Rubalcaba & Richard Galliano
A double treat! A multiple Grammy award winning Cuban piano virtuoso and a French master accordionist will perform beautiful music together.

Norwegian electronic big band creates infectious beats and cool cinematic atmospheres. Timeless, melodic, and hypnotizing.

June 28
Twin Shadow plus special guests Radio Zero
They’ve got an ’80s New Wave vibe going. Vocals sometimes recall Morrissey and Depeche Mode’s style.

June 30
Erik Truffalz 4Tet
Muted trumpet stylings with an array of down-tempo grooves. A jazz-rock Brian Eno style with lots of soul and plenty of wide open spaces.

July 1
Blue King Brown
Australia’s powerhouse band that blends Afro-beat, reggae and Latin influences with punchy, pointed lyrics. “Blue King Brown is my favourite band.” – Carlos Santana

July 2
Fond of Tigers with special guest Colin Stetson
“Think rock-in opposition meets Steve Reich.” Colin Stetson is a solo bass saxophonist that will blow your mind, according to Arcade Fire, Tom Waits, Laurie Anderson and Feist. Colin has played with all of them.
