Slickity Jims dinner-1

Slickity Jim’s may be best known for their brunch menu but the Main Street location (one of two in the city) has recently begun dinner service.

The restaurant has come a long way since owner Mike Zalman’s days going from door to door selling his homemade soups to local restaurants.

A few decades and two successful restaurants later, Zalman and team are keeping Vancouverites well fed morning through last call (1 am on Fridays and Saturdays).

This cozy, welcoming neighbourhood mainstay is filled with knick-knacks along its walls, perfectly matched for Main Street’s eclectic vibe. Jim’s serves a variety of both classics and “adult” floats (made with Jameson Irish Whiskey, Moylan’s Root Beer, house-made vanilla ice cream and brandied cherries).

And on Tuesday nights, it’s happy hour all night long! Other weekly specials include $5 cocktails on Wednesdays, $10 nachos on Thursdays, and $10 burger and beer on Saturdays.

For eats, think grilled Maui ribs, super tasty vegetarian quinoa meatballs, a short rib skillet served with house-made focaccia, steamed beans and roasted potatoes, salmon avocado rice bowl, BBQ pulled pork tacos and more.

I really dig their taste in music, from 60’s onward, rotating throughout the evening. In fact, a diner at the table next to ours Shazamed a song (I guess Stevie Nicks can be a discovery at any age), holding her smart phone up to a wall-mounted speaker up high in the corner.

It’s easy to enjoy an evening out enjoying these dishes with friends (and cocktails). I’ll be back to try many more and make it a point to return for brunch, because that’s where it’s at here (as well as their West 7th and Hemlock sister joint).

And with cooler temperatures on the way, how about a plate of roasted Rossdown Farms chicken with house-made BBQ sauce, roasted potatoes, steamed kale and corn bread? Cheers to autumn!

Slickity Jim’s is located at 3475 Main Street in Vancouver. They’re open for weekday breakfast, weekend brunch, lunch and dinner. Visit the website for hours and menus.
