Snagging Your Seat

Purchasing tickets ahead of time is crucial, especially for popular performances. Platforms like Broadway Inbound provide a trustworthy and efficient purchasing experience. Always check the show’s schedule, as matinee performances offer flexible viewing options.

Standard ticket prices usually range from USD $30 to $175, depending on the specific production and your chosen seating area. More budget-friendly tickets are often available on weekdays in the rear orchestra or mezzanine sections. And groups of ten or more are provided significant discounts for most shows. Conversely, the most expensive tickets are for prime seating during weekend evening performances.

Broadway theatre seating is typically divided into three main sections: Orchestra, mezzanine, and balcony. The orchestra section, located on the main floor, offers some of the closest views to the stage and is often preferred for its excellent sightlines. However, these prime spots can be more expensive and fill up quickly.

The mezzanine section is elevated, overhanging the orchestra, and often gives a great overall perspective of the entire stage. Seated in the mezzanine, you’ll feel immersed in the experience, sometimes even feeling closer to the action than in parts of the orchestra due to elevation and angle.

The balcony, positioned at the highest level, provides a bird’s-eye view of the stage and can be a more cost-effective option. Regardless of where you sit, each section offers a unique vantage point to enjoy the show.

Minding Your Manners

Experiencing the thrill of a Broadway show doesn’t require adhering to overly strict or stuffy protocols, but a grasp on theatre etiquette ensures that both you and fellow audience members enjoy a seamless experience.

As much as picking the right show or selecting the best seat, knowing the dos and don’ts of theatre manners is essential in order to fully appreciate a distraction-free performance.

Arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the performance, to allow time for ticket collection, washroom visits, and locating your seat. Remember, latecomers may not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance. Double check your ticket, as start times can vary between shows!

Once inside the theatre, ensure your mobile devices are switched off or silenced to maintain an uninterrupted performance. Additionally, video recording and taking photos during the show are strictly prohibited, as these actions can be distracting to performers and fellow audience members. Keeping conversations and other noises to a bare minimum not only enhances your experience but also respects the work of the artists on stage and the enjoyment of those around you.

When it comes to dress code, Broadway isn’t overly formal. Smart casual attire is perfectly acceptable. Comfort should be your priority, as you’ll be sitting for an extended period. However, dressing up a bit can add to the specialness of the occasion.
