Diwali Fest 2014

The Diwali Celebration Society is proud to present “Unity in Diversity” at the 11th Annual Diwali Fest happening from October 17 through October 26 at various venues throughout Vancouver and Surrey. Here’s the official festival lineup:

IndiGlam: Celebrating the official launch of Diwali Fest
The opening gala will include dinner, dance performances by internationally-renowned Shiamak Dance Group, live music, and a fashion show followed by a late night dance party with Juno-nominated DJA-SLAM.
Date: October 17, 7 pm
Venue: Crown Palace Banquet Hall, 12025 Nordel Way, Surrey
Tickets: $45 (plus fee); available online

Diwali Downtown Surrey
Similar to Diwali Downtown Vancouver, this free event brings together the best of contemporary and classical Indian culture for the entire family with over 15 different music and dance performances and an Indian bazaar featuring South Asian crafts and food.
Date: October 17, 3 to 7 pm
Venue: Surrey City Hall, 13450 104 Avenue, Surrey

Diwali Fest 2014

Chai House
An intimate cabaret performance highlighting a number of talented performers in music and dance, Chai House is for true lovers of Indian performance.
Date: October 23, 7 to 11 pm; doors at 6 pm
Venue: Orpheum Annex, 823 Seymour Street, Vancouver
Tickets: $15 Early Bird; $20 general; available online

Diwali Downtown Vancouver
Diwali Downtown is a free event that brings together the best of contemporary and classical Indian culture for the entire family. This year’s event will include over 15 different music and dance performances, an Indian bazaar featuring South Asian crafts and food, and a room-sized rangoli.
Date: October 25, 2 to 8 pm
Venue: Roundhouse Community Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver

Pre-Fest Diwali Workshops
Diwali Workshops are extremely popular. New this year as pre-fest activities include workshops on yoga, the history of Diwali, and Ayurveda. Other workshops offered during the festival are rangoli design, diya lamp painting, Bollywood dancing, sari wrapping, and mehndi hand painting.
Dates: October 11 to 26 at various venues in Surrey and Vancouver, including Roundhouse, Thunderbird, Trout Lake, and Renfrew Community Centres. Visit the website for each centre’s activities.

Pre-Fest Diwali Style Cooking Classes
This is a perfect pre-fest activity. Get into the Diwali spirit through some exciting and tasty cooking classes. Learn how to make authentic South Asian cuisine just in time for Diwali.
Dates: October 5 and 11, 2 to 4 pm
Venue: Roundhouse Community Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver

This growing Vancouver event has shown increasing interest from the general public.
