Vancouver’s Hotel Belmont is a fine addition to the city’s hotel scene, and a fun one too. It’s a visually appealing space with eye-catching graffiti, artwork, lighting and retro elements at every turn.
Their cool aqua-coloured VW van is occasionally parked around the corner, so you can start your Instagram stories even before you enter the lobby.
The eco- and pet-friendly, smoke-free Belmont Hotel is housed in a 1912 heritage building.

Scrolling through the Belmont’s Instagram feed shows off lots of cool details, happy guests with colourful cocktails in hand, yummy food and a glimpse at some of the fun surprises awaiting your stay here. We recently booked in for a one-night “tourist in our own town” stay.
Rooms
The hotel’s got 82 whimsical rooms ranging from standard queen to deluxe corner king rooms, plus the one-bedroom Belmont Suite, occupying the hotel’s top two floors.
Our corner Queen room has a pull-out sofa, desk with chair, a Keurig coffee/tea station and double-glazed windows (with top panels that can be pushed open, but our room faces busy Granville Street, so we’ve kept it closed).
Local beauty purveyor Skoah has partnered with The Belmont for its bathroom amenity line. The eco-friendly shampoo, body wash and conditioner dispensers in the tiled shower help reduce plastic waste.
Stowed in a narrow section of the open closet is an iron and full size ironing board.
Hallways are equally cool with their deep blue and cream cross motif to match the room’s sheer curtains, offset by deep grey fabric blackout curtains.
The beds feature handy side drawers (where duvets are stowed for cooler nights). An in-room safe is contained in one of these drawers.
We also discovered the room’s mini tablet to help guide us through restaurant and bar options, local attractions, a selection of games, emergency contacts, an alarm clock, web browser, complimentary access to online newspapers and magazines as well as nearby restaurants and travel services.
You can even use it as a remote control for the flatscreen TV (premium channels are included). Speaking of tech, there’s no shortage of outlets and USB ports here (as well as free wifi). Kudos to the team for including a digital clock with integrated wireless charging surface. The room’s also equipped with Google Cast so you can connect your mobile device to the TV.
Sleep
Despite being located right on Granville Street, we were surprised at how quiet the room was at night. We did come here mid-week in winter, but thanks to those double-glazed windows and an enforced quiet policy on the floors and rooms from 10 pm to 7 am, we were able to get a solid night’s sleep here.
Dining
The Living Room serves as the dining hub of the hotel, offering both dinner and late night menu and drinks. Think burgers, bowls, salads and a full menu of shared plates (we highly recommend the addictive cauliflower bites, seasoned with sweet chili, sesame seeds, green onions and bits of broccoli).
[The Belmont Classic Burger and side salad]
Gluten-free and vegetarian options are also on the menu.
A hot buffet breakfast is served here each morning from 7 to 10 am for $15 per person.
Designed as private event spaces, The Den and The Kitchen are located on the mezzanine level just above The Living Room.
[The Living Room before happy hour]
Happy hour’s from 4 to 6 pm nightly (each guest gets a drink ticket for a glass of wine or beer upon check-in).
Switch things up in The Basement, complete with a neon boom box DJ booth (adorned with retro toys!), plus an arcade gallery and one-lane bowling alley off to the side. Cheeky neon graces the walls.
This is the place to see and be seen (sadly it was closed on the night of our visit).
Even if you’re not staying at the Belmont, The Basement might just become your new local hangout: there’s DJ’s spinning tunes from Thursdays to Sundays.
In the Hood
