Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is thrilled to present a Sing-a-Long-a Grease at Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl on Saturday evening, August 24.
The brand new ‘sing-a-long-a’ version of Grease, the classic film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, now joins Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music and Abba as part of the worldwide phenomenon that has entertained audiences since 1999.
“Sing-a-long-a Grease is much more than just a movie,” says TUTS Managing Producer James Cronk. “It’s an event and an interactive experience. We are thrilled to include this experience as part of the 125th Birthday Celebrations for Stanley Park!”
The event will begin with a vocal warm-up led by the evening’s host who will then present a comprehensive guide to the accompanying actions and use of the interactive “fun pack” consisting of various props to be used at strategic points throughout the film.
Audience members who dress for the occasion will be invited on stage to compete in a costume contest. Patrons will then sit back and watch Danny, Sandy, and the rest of the T-Birds and Pink Ladies while singing along to the lyrics shown on screen.
Other events include a classic car show and shine and the TUTS Museum, featuring artifacts, costumes, and photos from the past 67 years. Looking through some of the old framed performance cards of the 30’s and 40’s as well as miniature stage sets was a treat for me last week at the Bowl where I enjoyed watching Legally Blonde The Musical.
