Willkommen! The 2015 Harvest Haus is officially open for sudsy rounds of song, food and fun in the heart of downtown Vancouver.
Once you’re in, grab a stein and choose from Leffe, Borg Brugghús, Samuel Adams, Russell, Newcastle Brown Ale, Birra Moretti, Erdinger, Grolsch, Löwenbräu, Steam Whistle, Goose Island, Hoegaarden and Krombacher beers. There’s also Jägermeister, Kessler Sekt and Strongbow available (in obviously smaller drinking vessels).
The currency around here is the Gulden (each one costs $2 and can be purchased once inside the Harvest Haus Halle). Pick up a branded stein at the entrance. $8 and it’s yours to keep, return it at the end of the night and get $7 back.
[Bauhaus Restaurant cheese spätzle]
Head outside to the Marktplatz where food stalls will fill you with Oyama sausage, sauerkraut, pork hock, Bauhaus Restaurant’s own cheese spätzle and other goodies.
Big ol’ pretzels are available from the Artisan Bake Shoppe.
The merriment built up last night after the Haus keg was tapped and music got underway by two bands: The Alpiners and Oom Pa band The Oktoberators.
If you’re feeling up for dressing the part, lederhosen and alpine hats are encouraged. An onsite shop sells merch from scarves to lederhosen.
Come by tonight, tomorrow, Sunday and October 9 to 11 for some cheer and Gemütlichkeit — no doubt a spirited way to kick off the harvest season!
Find Harvest Haus at the Queen Elizabeth Plaza (corner of West Georgia and Hamilton Streets). Visit the website for the latest ticket availability.
Note: This weekend’s Saturday evening (6 to 10 pm seating) is completely sold out. Prost!
