Tearing ourselves away from the breezy, naturally gorgeous Oregon coast wasn’t easy, but upon checking into the Thundering Waters Inn outside of Roseburg, we knew we were in for a treat.
So, what makes this B&B a standout from the rest that we visited on this trip? It wasn’t just the bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room’s fridge, nor was it the luscious Umpqua River view from the jacuzzi. The owners, Christina and Jim, take great pride in making guests feel at home and went above and beyond in creating both amazing breakfasts and evening appetizers with wines.
Homemade croissants and lattes greeted us in the morning, at a living room table near the window, a perfect spot for birdwatching.

The bathroom has a shower tower, offering all kinds of jets for relaxation. Between that, the jacuzzi, and our ultra-comfy bed, we were set.
The North Umpqua covers about a 77 mile area, from Rock Creek to the famous Cascade Mountains. Popular activities include hiking, rafting, fly-fishing and biking.
We were perfectly happy to spend an afternoon discovering nearby wineries, as well as take a day out to Crater Lake on July 4th with the rest of vacationing America.
The inn’s evening table was set both evenings upon our return, with all sorts of homemade dishes and Umpqua Valley wines.
Thundering Waters Inn is located outside of Roseburg along a winding road, close to the small town of Glide, the gateway to Crater Lake.
By taking the Scenic Highway 138 from Glide, it’s about two hours to the historic park’s north entrance.
The drive was incredible, with the wildflowers in bloom and hawks circling above at every turn. We hope to return again one day.
Thanks for your hospitality, Christina and Jim!
