Aladding - A Holiday Pantomime

You only get THREE wishes! What would you wish for?

Vancouver’s Metro Theatre marks its 487th production by presenting their annual pantomime. This year, it’s the classic tale of Aladdin.

Pantomime, a musical comedy first developed in England, is an all-singing, all-dancing twist on the traditional fairytale with topical humour, innuendos, and much audience participation.

In Aladdin, a noble pauper discovers the magic lamp (complete with its own genie) and falls for Princess Jasmine. The traditional pantomimic spin is in effect, complete with popular songs, laughter, and of course, the Dame. Aladdin finds help and hindrance along the way from classic Pantomime characters such as the Good Fairy and the villainous Demon.

Other characters old and new to the show will include Soapy, Iago, Grand Poo-Bah, and The Emperor and Empress of China.

Long-time Metro director Catherine Morrison has written and will direct this year’s production, combining classic tunes with tap and jazz to keep audiences clapping and feet tapping. Morrison will be assisted by Choreographer Jordana Jackson and Music Director David Rogers.

And while their leadership has been put to test by a bevy of over 30 actors large and small – ready to put on over 100 costumes waiting to sparkle – a team of dedicated crew members are working hard to make the magic happen with sound, light, smoke, and mirrors.

Don’t miss this fun and engaging family-friendly Christmas spectacle. Audiences are encouraged to cheer the hero and boo the villain (loudly), laugh at the Dame, and join in the festive fun.
