Toronto-based Mejuri is a direct-to-consumer brand of fine jewellery — without the traditional retail markup. New collections are launched regularly. By working directly with manufacturers and producing pieces in-house, the savings get passed onto their customers.
Although we missed the mid-December Vancouver opening late last year, we did have the chance to visit recently and check out the eighth Mejuri boutique following Toronto, Los Angeles, New York City, London, UK, Boston, Austin and San Francisco.
Plans are also underway to open a ninth store in Southern California, on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, just minutes away from Venice Beach.
The husband-and-wife team of Noura and Maj Sakkijha are third-generation jewellers and began their brand online. Mejuri’s become so popular that boutiques were the next step in their road to success. The new West 4th store in Kitsilano is filled with natural light and is tastefully designed in order to best showcase their pieces.
In fact, all of their modular mirror, millwork and jewellery displays were created in-house.
The interactive, casual space also allows for trying on pieces (there are small boxes in several spots around the store so that employees can clean the jewellery after it’s been tried on). Mejuri has also recently launched a small men’s collection that’s sure to grow over time.
According to Noura, “We saw so much success when we launched our seven-day pop-up back in 2019; we were able to connect with our community in real life and we’re so excited to see them again.” During that brief stint, the company saw a nearly 300% increase in commerce activity from British Columbians.
Their cheeky motto is fitting, especially as we approach Valentine’s Day: “For my damn self”!
Shoppers can also book an ear piercing appointment (Wednesday through Saturday) at their in-store piercing studio. We’re hopeful that Mejuri will open another Vancouver location at Oakridge Centre, a major retail and cultural hub that is currently under construction.
