Kimpton Saint George-7

I’ve been a fan of Kimpton properties for years. The brand has an endearing love for modern chic and the Saint George is no exception. This lovely little pet-friendly property is perfectly situated along Bloor Street West, between The Annex and Bloor-Yorkville.

Both the hotel’s lobby and Fortunate Fox (breakfast room/bar and grill) is filled with artwork and cozy spaces that invite conversation. In fact, the afternoon wine hour by the lobby is well attended by visitors enjoying a glass of red or white wine by the fireplace.

Custom art and furniture from local artists figure prominently in both public areas and within the Saint George’s 188 rooms.

Rooms have muted green walls with dark green trim and are fitted with lovely brass light fixtures, a variety of seating options designed by Toronto-based Mason Studio as well as unique art on the walls.

The Italian Frette luxury linen brand dresses the beds, and screened windows open for fresh air. The airco system is relatively quiet and is easy to operate near the entrance to the room.

The work desk (under the flat screen TV) sits in the centre of the room to take advantage of natural daylight, while a small glass table and chair is positioned by the window.

You’ll also find a mini fridge at the desk area, as well as several drawers for storing clothes. There’s a safe inside a wooden nightstand by the bed, as well as several ports for charging tech. I love the lattice and wood armoire by the other side of the bed, with its own self-contained lighting as well as an ironing board, iron, umbrella, terry robes and yoga mat.

And there’s a cheeky white squirrel on the inside door, an ode to Toronto’s famous little critter that inhabits Trinity Bellwoods Park on Queen Street West.

Skincare and perfume gurus Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz were struck by inspiration as they rode their bikes through the Amsterdam flower market. Their brainchild? A bath and body collection called Atelier Bloem (bloem translates to flower in Dutch) created exclusively for Kimpton hotels.

One of my favourite aspects of this hotel is dimmable lights throughout the room, especially in the bathroom. Those pretty bulb lights can be dimmed all the way down at night!

Micro kickboard scooters

Custom-designed Micro kickboard scooters (for kids) and Kimpton bikes are available on loan during your hotel stay.

There’s an on-site, 24-hour fitness centre on the second floor with PreCor treadmills, recumbent cycles, strength trainers, exercise balls, mats and free weights.

Kimpton has partnered with Talkspace, online therapy from the comfort of your phone. Kimpton guests new to Talkspace receive $100 off the first month of any Talkspace plan by entering code “KIMPTON” in the app.

There’s complimentary morning coffee and tea service at the front desk (for those decaf drinkers, a Keurig coffee machine and pods can be delivered to your room).

Housekeeping is available upon request; Kimpton’s team checks in daily via text to offer towels and sheet delivery and trash pick-up. The Kimpton also offers convenient digital check-in and check-out.

The Fortunate Fox

The Saint George’s main restaurant and bar, The Fortunate Fox, serves daily breakfast (guests can also opt for a take-out breakfast delivered to their room).

An all-day menu is offered from 11 am to 1 am and the bar remains open until 2 am. I noticed a pair of dart boards, games and puzzles in the corner to the left of the bar as well.

In the Hood

The Bata Shoe Museum is just across the street and the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is a few blocks down. Numerous boutiques, cafes, restaurants and venues are all within walking distance on either side of Bloor Street West.

The Saint George TTC subway line is just around the block and the Spadina tram line is less than five minutes away on foot.

The Kimpton Saint George is located at 280 Bloor Street West in Toronto.

I was hosted by the Kimpton Saint George for the purpose of this feature. Opinions, as always, remain my own.
