The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) just launched a search for the 7 Contemporary Wonders of the World, a global initiative designed to identify and celebrate the landmarks and buildings created since 1801 that have had the greatest impact on Travel & Tourism, local communities and economic development, and continue to redefine the future of destinations around the world.

For the first time in history, travel lovers around the globe will get the opportunity to nominate and help select the places that best define the modern age of travel.

What Constitutes a Contemporary Wonder?

– Made by human hands, including landmarks, buildings, institutions, and resorts
– Built from 1801 to today.
– A place that responsibly draws the world and creates opportunity where it stands.
– Open to discovery: The celebrated and the not-yet-celebrated alike.

The campaign will not only recognize globally-celebrated icons, but also emerging landmarks that have delivered a meaningful impact on their communities and have the potential to shape the next generation of tourism destinations.

Choosing the 7 Contemporary Wonders of the World also highlights how public-private collaboration can create world-class landmarks that generate future growth and enhance the visitor experience.

April 7, 2027: The shortlist will narrow to 30 finalists
July 7, 2027: The 7 Contemporary Wonders of the World will be revealed

I’m curious to hear some of your top landmarks! Will it be Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum? The Eiffel Tower? The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP)? Feel free to comment below, and visit WTTC’s 7 Contemporary Wonders of the World page to vote for your personal favourites.
