I didn’t get any photo opportunities on my drive up from Vancouver to Whistler this time around, as pouring rain leaving the city changed to heavy snow between Squamish and Whistler.
The Ford Fusion Hybrid SE loaned to me for the week by Ford Canada was all business however, zipping me up to the mountains in comfort and style.
Whether or not I was tired, a driver alert button did pop up along the way, reminding me to take a break if needed. Stepping lightly on the gas made the alert disappear.
Another great functionality built into the car is auto heat, defrost, and lights. Without having to worry about the windows fogging up during a snowstorm, I was able to concentrate on my drive.
Bluetooth easily paired with my iPhone, to allow a few hands-free calls to come through while my iPod Nano would auto silence to pick up (or reject) incoming calls.
It’s easy to see how much fuel you’ve conserved, and a battery indicator shows how combining electric with gas, mileage between tanking up can be greatly reduced. When the battery is depleted or more power is required, the vehicle functions as a traditional gas-electric hybrid. The Fusion Hybrid SE also features a Regenerative Braking System, allowing it to capture over 90% of the brake energy, helping to recharge the battery for later use.
I was able to travel 326 km on a half tank of combined electricity and gas. With current Vancouver gas prices at $1.28/litre, that came down to $29 for the gas.
Once in Whistler, The Hilton Whistler was my home base for attending Cornucopia. I stayed in a Junior Suite with complete kitchen (minus oven), wood-burning fireplace, and full bathroom with a jacuzzi tub.
Free high-speed wifi, flatscreen TV, and balcony were all welcome additions to make my stay comfortable and hassle-free.
I had comfortable sleeps on the king bed. The Hilton is well-situated for exploring Whistler Village as well as for attending Cornucopia events.
Downtime was spent enjoying the outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi, indoor heated whirlpool surrounded by windows looking out to the natural Whistler beauty, and a dry sauna.
Though I didn’t make use of it on this trip, there’s a fitness centre just located near the sauna and changing areas.
Cinnamon Bear Grille and Bar are onsite for dining, covering breakfast, dinner, late-night lounging and drinks, as well as in-room dining.
Hilton Whistler Resort and Spa is located at 4050 Whistler Way in Whistler.
A huge thanks to both Ford Canada and Hilton Whistler for making my trip and stay so wonderful!
