Love's Labour's Lost at Bard on the Beach

If you’ve been enjoying Bard on the Beach’s current summer lineup (The Comedy of Errors, King Lear, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Shakespeare’s Rebel), then there’s one more event that shouldn’t slip your radar: Operas and Arias.

Bard Artistic Director Christopher Gaze will host this in-concert performance showcasing the gifted young stars of the UBC Opera Ensemble under the direction of Nancy Hermiston. According to Gaze, “I’m so pleased to bring the glorious music of Gilbert and Sullivan to our audiences this summer. Their music is filled with such tradition and sentiment. Showcasing their marvelous operettas is an opportunity to bring the beauties of our youth to a new generation. It’ll be tremendous fun!”

Delight in the wit and whimsy of songs such as I’m Called Little Buttercup, Three Little Maids, I am the Very Model… and Then One of Us, from some of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular pieces: The Pirates of Penzance, H.M.S. PinaforeThe Mikado and more.

The performances will also include instrumental accompaniment by members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, conducted by Leslie Dala.
