Ballet BC just announced the repertoire and performance schedule for its 2012/2013 season. With its continuing focus on artistic vision, strategic planning, collaborations and community outreach, Ballet BC remains committed to new work that is engaging, passionate and transformative, while staying firmly grounded in the classical idiom.
According to Artistic Director Emily Molnar, “I am thrilled by the exhilarating works Ballet BC is planning to present in our 2012/13 season, demonstrating once again our commitment to excellence and innovation in dance. Our new season includes three Ballet BC programs with World Premieres, an encore evening of audience favourites and the highly anticipated, full-length Giselle by our Resident Choreographer José Navas.
“The season also includes The National Ballet of China on its first Canadian tour in a full-length Swan Lake, choreographed by the great Russian ballerina Natalia Marakova; and for the holiday season, the welcome return of Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Nutcracker.”
Ballet BC, a company of 16 talented dancers from around the world, is committed to the ballet of today. Solidly grounded in the classical ballet lexicon but with more immediacy and connection to the 21st century, the company presents a diverse repertoire of Canadian and international contemporary ballet. Entering into its 25th anniversary year, Ballet BC continues its commitment to perform on multiple regional, national and international tours in addition to its regular performance season at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver.
Other notable Ballet BC 2012/13 initiatives include a company tour to several cities in Ontario, including an appearance at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, as well as programs such as Artist-In-Residency, Company apprenticeships, outreach initiatives for students, Summer Dance Intensive in collaboration with the Arts Umbrella Dance Program and the popular Studio Series, Pre-show Chats and Artist Talks.
