Roy Forbes

Roy Forbes, one of Canada’s best-loved acoustic artists, returns to the Deep Cove Shaw Theatre next month. The theatre’s intimate setting will beautifully showcase the stripped down sounds of one of our national treasures, Roy Forbes – one guitar and one voice – the unmistakable sound that audiences keep coming back for.

Born in Dawson Creek, B.C. and nicknamed Bim as a child, Roy Forbes has been a strong presence on the Canadian music scene since the early 70’s as a performer, songwriter, recording artist, record producer, and broadcaster.

Roy Forbes has a unique, intense guitar style and soulful singing that’s instantly recognizable. He has absorbed all of his influences and has developed into an original, dynamic, exciting performer of deeply resonant lyrics.

From the 1975 release of his first album, Kid Full Of Dreams, Roy has been regarded as one of Canada’s finest songwriters. This two-time Juno nominee and multi-West Coast Music Award winner has nine solo albums to his credit, two CDs with UHF (Ulrich Henderson and Forbes), and a Christmas album with Connie Kaldor.

Roy has not only had success singing his own songs, but others have performed and recorded his work, even using it as ‘source music’ for movies and television. Roy is also a producer of other artists, contributes regularly to CBC Radio One (with the occasional but popular Snap Crackle Pop) and hosts a Monday evening radio show on CKUA: Roy’s Record Room

His latest album, Some Tunes For That Mother of Mine, pays tribute to the songs he grew up listening to in his snowy Dawson Creek hometown. This special concert series will help raise funds for First Impressions Theatre.
