Triple O’s, home of BC’s favourite burgers, fries, and hand-scooped shakes, also happens to be one of Vancouver’s original food carts. In 1928, a young BC entrepreneur named Nat Bailey had a vision to build a restaurant that served the highest quality and most unique tasting food. He started Canada’s first drive-in restaurant after transforming his own truck into a traveling lunch counter.
Bailey took orders from parked cars in a lot on Granville Street, using order pads that were printed with three X’s and three O’s. The phrase became part of the language as diners could choose specially made mayonnaise and relish for their burgers. X meant “hold”, O meant “extra”, and Triple “O” meant “plenty of everything.” The Triple O’s name was born from that lingo.
Dare to try their new peanut butter, bacon, and banana milkshake, or a peanut butter, bacon, and jalapeño burger. My husband and I tried the milkshake last week and were pleasantly surprised to see staff coming out of the kitchen with freshly cooked strips of bacon that are then crumbled and blended with both vanilla bean ice cream and banana syrup to create this rich and hearty sipper.
Like to try it for yourself? Triple-O’s has provided me with a $50 gift card to pass along to one of you. Try the new milkshake or the peanut butter, bacon, and jalapeño burger, made with Canadian bacon cooked in-house, just like those milkshakes (in case you’re not in the daring mood, the gift card is valid for anything on the menu).
