Oktoberfest has arrived at Market by Jean-Georges at Vancouver’s Shangri-La Hotel.
From now until October 7, you can dine in the middle of a beer garden patio complete with Bavarian music, atmosphere, and authentic ceramic steins of Brau-Weisse Ayinger beer. This Oktoberfest favourite has been specially brought in from Bavaria and is joined by fest favourites such as salted pretzels, Black Forest sauerkraut, spaëtzle, and schnitzel.
There are two seatings at dinner: from 5:30 to 7:30 and from 8 to 11. Oktoberfest lunch is available Monday to Friday, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.
[Turkey schnitzel with herb spaëtzle]
This is a fun way to partake of the yearly tradition that Bavarians the world over have come to cherish. Raise a mug and say “prosit“!
I sampled a simplified menu of last Friday evening (admitting here that I’m not neither a huge sausage nor sauerkraut fan).
The menu
To start: Salted pretzels, sweet and Dijon mustards
Appetizers: Barnston Island green salad, radish, mushroom, sweet mustard vinaigrette
or
Black Forest charcuterie, buffalo pepperoni, Shinkenspeck Landjager, stone fruit chutney
Mains: Black Forest sauerkraut, herb spaëtzle, Oktoberfest sausage wiener, smoked pork hock
or
Black Forest sauerkraut, herb spaëtzle, Weisswurst, smoked pork hock, turkey schnitzel
Dessert: German chocolate brownie or Bavarian apple torte
Lunch costs $39 per person, including a half litre of Ayinger beer and three course prix fixe Oktoberfest menu; dinner is $49 per person (same menu as above).
