BFF-less, a new play by Ben Brown, tells the story of Sadie’s search for a true number-one best friend. When Allison and Juno respond to her Craigslist ad, Sadie conducts a very unorthodox ‘Best Friend Test,’ to see which of them is worthy of being her new BFF. But can friendship be forced? Do adults need best friends? And is it even possible to make friends in Vancouver?

Come celebrate female friendship — and the awkward beauty of stepping out of your comfort zone to make new friends — at the Fringe!

Directed by Melissa Oei, BFF-less will perform at Arts Umbrella Mainstage on Granville Island next month. The creative team behind the play is Roomie Productions, a group of young, emerging Studio 58 theatre training program graduates with a passion for telling relatable stories in a unique fashion.

Ben Brown is a Vancouver-based actor and writer, originally from St. Albert, Alberta. As a playwright, Ben’s apocalyptic comedy, Aftermath, was produced as a part of Studio 58’s ‘Six of One’ play festival in 2022. Since graduating from Studio 58 in 2023, Ben has worked as an actor with the Arts Club, Gateway Theatre, and the Firehall Arts Centre. Catch him on stage this winter in Theatre Replacement’s East Van Panto: West Van Story.

Melissa Oei is thrilled to be working with the next generation of theatre makers from her alma mater, Studio 58. Directing credits include 90 Days (Western Gold Theatre), Six of One (Studio 58), and Travel Theatrics (Standing Room Only Theatre). Melissa is an accomplished theatre actor who has performed with dozens of companies across Canada. Catch her on stage this fall at the Cultch in the world premiere of Fire Never Dies: The Tina Modotti Project with Electric Company Theatre.
