Summer Fun: Take-Off Fridays at YVR

Celebrating summer fun in Vancouver translates to a ton of options for families and out-of-town guests. Visit Vancouver International Airport (YVR) any Friday through August 29 for Take-Off Fridays and enjoy delicious treats, music, and special entertainment that will have both travellers and staycationers eager to get to the airport.

Whether you’re looking for an entertaining new family activity, hoping to soak up the summer spirit with friends, or looking for an added reason to arrive early for your next flight, YVR has something for everyone.

Plan to visit between 9 am and 3 pm for a full day of free samples, great music, live DJs, a balloonist, caricaturists, and interactive community partner displays. Kids will get a chance to meet YVR’s own mascots dancing to music, and get their faces painted. The Take-Off Fridays lunch special has expanded this year to include over 30 restaurants within YVR.

At YVR’s Public Observation Area, kids and adults alike can explore interactive displays, quizzes, and videos for a behind-the-scenes look at Canada’s second busiest airport. Check out airfield action up close with telescopes, discover Sea Island through an interactive model and learn some interesting facts about YVR, the history of flight in BC, and all things aviation-related.

YVR’s Emergency Response Team will host Airside Demonstrations every Friday in August from 11 to 11:30 am. Meet YVR firefighters and watch airfield emergency response vehicles in action.
