Imagine a world in which all children are able to pursue a quality education, reach their full potential and contribute to the community around them.
Global organization Room to Read establishes libraries, builds schools, publishes local-language children’s books, trains teachers and supports girls so that they can complete secondary school with the life skills necessary to succeed in school and beyond.
15 years ago, Room to Read began as a humble book drive hoping to fill a library in Nepal with child-appropriate literature. Today, their reach is worldwide, combining business principles from the private sector with best practices and industry-leading research from the non-profit sector. To date, they’ve made a positive impact on the lives of over 10 million children worldwide.
On October 13, Destination Global Literacy will proudly sponsor Room to Read, a special evening to celebrate this worthy literacy-focused global non-profit while raising money for a worthy cause.
More than 250 of Vancouver’s most influential philanthropists, business and community leaders from an array of industries will travel around the world and experience the countries Room to Read has impacted directly, all inside the Terminal City Club.
The event will feature Nepal, India, Tanzania and Cambodia-themed rooms, all of which will be filled with culturally authentic food, drinks, decor and entertainment.
Guests will be able to immerse themselves in each of these unique cultures as they’re led on a guided tour through each space.
More than just a gala, this event will allow attendees to experience the life-changing impact of Room to Read as well as become an active member in this global organization’s goal to bring literacy to 15 million children worldwide by 2020. They’re serious about changing the world and hope you’ll join their global movement to help achieve this milestone.
John Wood, Room to Read’s co-founder, influential entrepreneur, award-winning author and member of Time Magazine’s 25 Best Givers will be attendance.
