In case you weren’t aware, the City of Vancouver launched a bike rack design contest this year to find six of the best designs to create bike racks from!
In Spring 2018, VIVA Vancouver published a call for fun and functional bike rack designs that would hold two bikes upright and reflect Vancouver in a creative and original way. The contest was open to anyone living, working or going to school in Vancouver and provided a low-barrier opportunity for creative expression for people of all ages and abilities.
And as if the heart-shaped bike racks around the city weren’t cute enough, we now have six uniquely-shaped and colourful racks to lock up our bikes to.
Out over over 450 entries, the panel of judges (including design professionals and cycling advocates) whittled down the designs to 30, then selected six winners to have their rack mounted in Stamps Landing (close to Mahony & Sons pub).
Each winner received $2,000 in prize money plus their design manufactured by the City to be installed around Vancouver.
They’re now up and are definitely representative of our city, from mountain peaks to leaves to birds (and an egg!). They’re officially titled Living Leaf, Petal Rack, North Shore Mountains and Guard Bird. Which one’s your favourite? Feel free to leave us a comment when you spot them elsewhere around Vancouver!
