When we recently researched suitcases online and found one whose fabric (and lining) is made with 43 100% post-consumer recycled bottles, we were intrigued!
Samsonite’s ECO-Nu line of 19” to 29” expandable spinner trolley cases is newly designed with many great features.
For starters, it’s lightweight, has a lovely colour duo (ours is in Pacific Blue/Navy) and its high-performance Saguaro wheel system should provide years of globe-trotting, train travel, road trips and hotel stays.
Samsonite includes a 10-year global warranty with their luggage to take care of (replace or repair) any manufacturing issues or defects.
Tie-down straps typically get in the way of packing, but Samsonite has thought this through with smart-fix buckles that keep them out of the way until you’re ready to secure the suitcase.
There’s a smartly-designed hidden expansion system to help protect the zipper, easy-to-grip t-zipper pulls, an integrated bottom handle for easy lifting and a rugged telescoping handle to ease with movement.
The suitcase itself has a unique wrap-around frame design with a stylish, modern look. If you’re not a fan of clamshell style suitcases, this one is worth checking out.

Samsonite’s portable Electronic Luggage Scale is a useful travel accessory for today’s ever-changing luggage weight/size restrictions. This one starts up with a friendly “HELLO” on the LED screen, then allows you to weigh your luggage in grams, ounces, kilos or pounds.
[Weighing an empty ECO-Nu 25″ expandable spinner]
It’ll register luggage weights of up to 80 pounds (36 kilos).
Simple to use, just power on the scale, wait until the display reads 0g, attach the piece of luggage through the hook and wait for the beep, which means the data is locked (and auto-resets after 12 seconds).
You can then set the luggage down to read the final weight recorded on the screen.
The scale readout also includes the Tare weight, which is pretty handy, considering when you place the suitcase through the hook, that number indicates the weight of the actual contents, not the suitcase itself.
A solid metal hook is all you need to lift and weigh your gear, and there’s four finger indent grips for an ergonomic feel to the scale.
It also powers off automatically after 30 seconds of inactivity (you can also manually turn it off but pressing and holding the on/tare button for a couple of seconds).
The package comes with two AAA batteries and a user guide. On the left side is an 80 cm (31”) pull-out tape measure too, so you can confirm you’re within limits right at the terminal.
