If there’s one thing we look forward to when opening a new Dyson product, it’s the simplicity in design, forward-thinking technology and ease of setup and use, and Dyson’s new Pure Cool Me, a personal air purifier and fan, is no exception.
Definitely ready for prime time, the Pure Cool Me is the end result of a team of 120 engineers that developed 2,022 prototypes with over 350 mechanicals tests to ensure the machine would stand the test of time.
The box opens to reveal a top cardboard panel aka Quick Start. Here’s where you’ll find the iconic Dyson remote control, tucked into its own cut-out silhouette with lines printed on the panel pointing to its five key functions.
Open the bottom flap to remove the power outlet. There’s only one more item to take out of the box: the fan itself. No wastefully-printed instruction guide, just a yellow sheet of paper with a URL pointing to two quick videos: one to get you up and running with the Pure Cool Me, the other to change the HEPA/carbon filter down the road.
The compact machine features Dyson’s latest air projection technology, Core Flow.
By creating a strong, steady stream of filtered air (with 10 speed settings) that can be directed just where you’d like it (via moving the ball with your hand), the Pure Cool Me purifying fan delivers cleaner air, capturing 99.97% of particle pollutants as small as 0.3 microns (that’s 300 times narrow than a human hair).
As we generally spend more time indoors than out by way of work, study, exercise, eating, sleeping, streaming shows and checking our smart phones, it makes sense to capture the pollution and particles we often ignore in our homes. Opening windows and doors brings in fresh air — and pollutants.
When you consider just how many fumes, odours, chemicals (from cleaning products, cosmetics, even scented candles) and damp surfaces are found inside homes and apartments, a product that captures nearly all of it begins to make sense.
The Dyson Pure Cool Me has some amazing design features worth mentioning. The machine’s base contains a layer of acoustic attenuation foam to help absorb excess noise from the motor, while the intelligent light-sensing system knows to automatically dim or brighten the built-in LCD screen in real time to work with your present surroundings.
You can also set it to oscillate at a 70-degree rotation. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Dyson fan if the remote didn’t magnetically attach to the unit.
We placed the Pure Cool Me in the bedroom, set it to oscillate on a medium (4) setting and within seconds, the light on the panel went dark (our small bedside table lamps were the only lights on at the time). The remote has a sleep timer that will turn off after preset intervals from 30 minutes to eight hours.

Pressing the info button on the remote shows an animated real-time reminder of how your filter is working (and will remind you when it needs changing — about once a year, depending on usage). Aside from filter life, oscillation and sleep timer, the other two functions are on/off and airflow speed.
Its small footprint and weight allows for easy moving from room to room.

Final Thoughts
Yes, it’s quiet, and the air flow is nice and cooling. The modern design is easy on the eyes and my husband and I both agree that this fan is very user-friendly.
