Earl's Summer Kick-off-2

Last night saw the launch of Earl’s Restaurants’ summer kick-off, to celebrate longer days, patio weather, and a summer menu.

A fun new campaign with a ‘It’s on a school night’ theme includes a menu with salads, cedar-planked salmon, crispy Thai prawns, and a Sunday through Thursday special with $5 tacos, nachos, tequilas, margaritas, and Coronas. These deals will last through September 9.

In addition, each day has its own food and drink specials (an excellent Tuesday deal: 12 oz. Driftwood IPA sleeves for $3!).

Alongside tried-and-true favourites BBQ back ribs, burgers, and a wealth of salads, soups, and sharing plates, comes a very tasty, light prawn and quinoa salad, made festive with avocado, feta cheese, strawberries, candied pecans, in a citrus honey vinaigrette (perfectly paired with a crisp glass of white wine or a sangria).

The salad was a great combination of tastes, with the quinoa and crumbled feta so well paired in the citrus honey vinaigrette that I’m hoping to replicate it at home. Los Cabos chicken tacos (served three to an order) are served on soft corn tortillas with Valentina hot sauce.

Another discovery was the BBQ pork buns, created to look like mini tacos, dressed in a flavourful, not-too-spicy hoisin sauce, garnished with cilantro and roasted peanuts. So tasty!

We also tried the Thai vegetable bowl, something that’s been on Earl’s regular menu for awhile, now with a healthy tofu option (chicken and prawns are also available). Together with quinoa, onions, peanuts, coconut, lemongrass broth, plus some extra to drizzle onto the salad, this makes for a reasonably filling entree together with a beer.

Earl's BBQ back ribs + Cajun chicken

My husband dug into the BBQ back ribs and Cajun chicken (served in half or full portions with warm potato salad and cole slaw). Each meat is prepped in its own sauce, making for two great tastes in one entree.

There’s several vegetarian and gluten-free choices on the menu as well. Even though I don’t follow a gluten-free diet, it appears as though my entire meal was gluten-free. I hardly missed the gluten in any of my dishes.

We learned that Earl’s squeezes over 700 fresh limes daily at each of their locations, using premium tequila in their drink offerings.

Earl's Summer Kick-off-3

Craft cocktails at Earls are fun and playful this summer with the Cabin Fever, served in an iconic blue camp mug, the Bees Knees, made with homemade honey syrup, and the Mad Hatter (a cocktail for four), with its unique blend of house made Kaffir tea syrup, coconut water, pear puree, fresh lemon juice and vodka.

The menu has so many options and combinations that will appeal to all tastes and budgets. We also noticed thin-crust pizzas, pastas, noodles, and steaks gracing the menu. Next time we’ll save room for dessert!
