This year, the Vancouver BIA decided to change things up by rebranding Kitsilano’s popular Hippy Daze street festival into Khatsahlano! Music + Art Festival. Saturday’s event seemed much better organized and left me wanting more, compared with the less populated Hippy Daze events I’d been to in previous years.
Five stages were set up along West 4th, from Cypress to Vine Streets. 23 Vancouver acts performed between 11 and 6 pm. A warm, sunny Vancouver day greeted the crowds, and this time, the action continued to Macdonald Street, giving the Trafalgar-to-Macdonald business owners both a chance to highlight their services and enjoy the festival.
A community garage sale (hosted by Kitsilano Neighbourhood House) was set up from Trafalgar to Vine Street, billed as Kitsilano’s biggest yard sale.
Acts ranged from burlesque to power-pop/punk. The choice of music was selected by local indie record shop Zulu Records. Here’s an overview of the day in photos.
