HArts poster detail

In the House is proud to present the Lookout Society’s annual Gala fundraiser, H’Arts for the Homeless, an event inspired by those helped by the Lookout Society. Through circus, music, magic, stories, dance and art, the gala will highlight the deep sense of relief and hope that a stable, safe home provides. H’Arts celebrates the joys, successes, and untold strengths of the residents and front line workers who live and work at Lookout.

Lookout believes that helping people help themselves is essential in addressing homelessness and the issues that surround it. Securing appropriate housing is the first and most essential step in achieving responsible independence for individuals. With 22 locations around the Lower Mainland, Lookout provides safe and clean housing for people who would otherwise be living on the street or in unsafe, unsanitary, and unsupportive environments. Lookout also provides a stable home base for people to make a fresh start in life. More than just a roof over their heads, Lookout is a secure place that residents can call “home.”

A fixed address, phone, internet access, and shower: all necessities in order to hold down a job and to build one’s dignity. The privacy, creature comforts, and ability to cook one’s own meals needed to feel secure and healthy; the moral and social support in the community needed to feel like someone cares – these are all things that Lookout provides for its residents.

Lisa’s stay at Lookout housing’s North Vancouver location allowed her to get back on her feet and receive the support necessary to become sober, rebuild her relationship with her young son, and graduate with a degree in Health Services. According to Lisa, “The staff… are the kindest people that I’ve ever met… the kindness and the respect that they showed, and the dignity was just the kindest thing I’d come across in a very, very long time… They gave physical food, a physical place to put your head down and clean yourself up… Everything  just makes you feel like a human being. It’s given me a place to rebuild. It’s given me a chance to rebuild my relationship with my son … I’m so so so grateful that this opportunity came to me because this saved my life.”

Lookout has been providing solutions to homelessness since 1971. Through your support of this great cause, you too can be part of the solution. Come prepared to enjoy an evening filled with live performances, bid on fabulous pieces of art and silent auction items, sip cocktails, and dance the night away!
