I was part of the throng of people out to enjoy or partake in this afternoon’s Vancouver Polar Bear Swim.
2013 year marks the 93rd year that the landmark event has taken place along our city’s beautiful coastline.
As usual, an event this popular brings out the most eclectic collection of people from all corners of the Lower Mainland. According to local sources, a near record 2,233 participants signed on to take the plunge this year.
I watched as the brave souls headed into the water, rushing back out with a thrill and a story to tell for days to come.
These two folks were happy to read and sketch while being surrounded by a huge crowd.
This younger onlooker simply enjoyed creating forms in the sand.
And this man has taken a dip for the 30th time in a row!
Whatever the reason for taking the plunge, this was another year of crazy costumes, screams emanating from the water, and a massive amount of hot chocolate at the ready for the post-swim warmup.
Happy 2013 indeed!
