Tableau Bar and Bistro held another fun event yesterday afternoon: Casse-Croûte Fête, an oyster shucking contest in honour of their new Casse-croûte menu. Casse-croûte is French for a snack or light meal served between a larger one.
Kusshi and and Summer Breeze oysters were served to guests alongside bacon caesars, gourmet bread sticks, cheese puffs, and assorted olives.
At 4:30, four of Vancouver’s well-known personalities battled it out to see who could shuck the best-looking half dozen oysters the fastest.

The Province’s Fred Lee, Urban Rush’s Fiona Forbes, Rock 101’s Bro Jake, and food blogger Victoria Chemko were the four chosen contestants at the shucking table with gloved hands and knives at the ready.

The crowd anxiously watched and waited until moments later, Fiona Forbes rang the bell and became the winner.
The casse-croûte menu includes Moët & Chandon champagne, fresh west coast oysters, cheese and charcuterie plates, frites, marinated olives and rabbit terrine. It’s the perfect way to wind down after a long day at work. The menu will be served from Monday to Friday from 2:30 to 5:30 pm.
Here are a few other photos from the afternoon. The rest can be viewed in my Flickr photo set.
