The Chefs’ Table Society of BC is pleased to announce the 5th Annual Spot Prawn Festival on Saturday May 7th, from 11am – 3pm. This is both a community and family-friendly event that will take place at False Creek Fishermen’s Wharf.
Local chefs preparing prawn dishes will include Bishop’s Andrea Carlson; Ned Bell, Executive Chef of Rosewood Hotel Georgia; The Pear Tree’s Scott Jaeger; Provence Restaurant’s Alessandra Quaglia and Tojo. BC wines and live music will add to the colourful atmosphere. In addition, the Vancouver Aquarium will entertain kids with hands-on activities.
Tickets for a plated prawn lunch will be available for $10, including fresh-caught spot prawns, a side dish and Terra Breads to finish it all off, plus free samples of BC wine and Mogiana Coffee.
This popular kick-off event will hopefully inspire you to purchase your own bag of live prawns ($12 per lb.) to take home and enjoy on the BBQ or in a favourite dish. Fisherman’s Wharf dock will serve as the daily purchase point for eight weeks to follow.
Purchasing these locally sourced prawns during their short catch season is a sustainable way to preserve our supply. They are also an excellent and tasty alternative to farmed tiger prawns. My husband and I look forward each year to spot prawns cooked (briefly!) on the BBQ. What’s your favourite way to prepare them?
