Get ready for the 17th Annual Healthy Chef Competition! I’ve attended this event for several years running now, and it’s always an intense but engaging evening. This social event brings 500 guests together to enjoy the creations of 10 different culinary properties competing for awards and prize monies based on their innovative use of fresh produce.
The challengers will create, prep and dish up approximately 70 plates each including an entrée and dessert that includes the prominent use of fresh produce.
Each team’s presentation will be judged on several points including the creative use of five or more produce items, taste, plate presentation for both entrée and dessert as well as overall station display. They’ve been pretty lavish at times!
This event is unique in that at each table of 10, sealed envelopes are placed at individual table settings. The envelope reveals your entrée and dessert selection.
Prior to the meal, judges will have evaluated all entrées and desserts and determined the winners, announced at the end of the evening. The culinary properties compete for four awards including the Healthy Half-Your-Plate Award which comes with a $1,000 prize.
Your ticket includes dinner (plus the chance to try other dishes once everyone’s had the first round, so save some room!), live music, table presentations, roaming entertainers, silent and live auctions, presentations and take-home swag (a gift box of fresh BC produce).
At the end of the evening, the BCPMA will present $7,000 to the BC Chefs’ Association Scholarship foundation for the BC Chefs’ Junior Culinary Program.
