2016 Yule Duel Vancouver

Yule Duel returns on Thursday, December 1 to bring together Vancouver’s top choirs, a live marching percussion band and some of the city’s most notable personalities to fundraise for May’s Place, an organization that provides much needed, compassionate end-of-life care to vulnerable people in the Downtown Eastside.

Throughout the evening, stroll along Water Street (the perfect venue with its picturesque lamps and cobblestoned streets) and enjoy listening to over 20 choirs perform various styles of music from pop to gospel.

The public is invited to vote for their favourite choir of the evening by purchasing a button for $5 and casting their vote. Funds received from each button purchase will go directly to May’s Place.

Last year’s event raised over $38k and Manager of Hospice Services Michele Sutherland hopes for another successful year to match (or exceed) that amount to make life a bit more cheerful for less fortunate Vancouverites.

Close to 8 pm, celebrity judges will select their favorite choirs based on Most Creative Performance and Best Vocal Performance, then narrow down the competition to the top two choirs in each category who will then ‘duel’ it out on the main stage. In addition, the two top public-voted (via button purchase) choirs will go on stage to battle it out for the People’s Choice Award.

Well-loved Vancouverite Fred Lee will emcee the evening.

I’m proud to be part of the judging committee alongside Rebecca Bollwitt (Miss 604), Heather Deal (Vision Councilor), John Fluevog (Fluevog Shoes), Morna Edmondson (Elektra Women’s Choir) and Mike Forrester (Coastal Jazz).

Come out and enjoy a fine evening of free holiday entertainment for a great cause!
