I’m officially on my way to attend the fifth annual CES Asia in Shanghai this month, via an invitation from the CES Journalist Scholarship Program. This will be my first-ever trip to Mainland China and I plan to explore the show then stay on for several nights to take in the city’s major sights.

Compared to CES Vegas, CES Asia is on a smaller scale, held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre Center (SNIEC) and the Kerry Hotel in the city’s Pudong district.

This year’s show will see a large focus on vehicle technology with over 60 global auto brands present to showcase their latest tech innovations. Concept cars, connected vehicles (from self-driving to all-electric) will be on display at the SNIEC during the show’s two days.

AI Technology is another area expected to make a splash this year in Shanghai. From health to wellness, robotics to agriculture, AI-powered products can aid in home security, anticipates user needs, read facial expressions and more.

The Internet of Things continues at CES Asia, showcasing smart homes, advancements in connectivity and mobile (think 5G).

Augmented and Virtual Reality, including motion tracking, 360 video, directional sound, head-mounted displays and all the latest innovations spring-boarding from there are also headed to Shanghai.

The show is expected to feature over 550 exhibiting companies in over 20 product categories with a total attendance of over 40K.

It’s also the only Asian industry event focused on the Asia-Pacific market. In comparison, CES Vegas (held each year in early January) is spread over several venues, includes over 4.4K exhibiting companies with a total attendance (in 2018) of over 182K.

I’m pretty excited to get a chance to check out the latest and greatest, halfway around the globe, where much of it hails from, and will be reporting back here later in the month with some of my discoveries. Stay tuned!
