Die Roten Punkte

Die Roten Punkte, Berlin’s Prince and Princess of Rock, are back for the fifth time in Canada, this time taking their act to The Cultch. I was fortunate to have attended opening night on Tuesday.

If you haven’t yet seen the duo perform their “Kunst Rock” set, you’re in for a 75 minute treat. According to Otto Rot, this is their most avant-garde and “arty” album to date.

Die Roten Punkte consists of the brother and sister duo, Astrid (drums, vocals, cowbell) and Otto Rot (guitar, vocals, loops). Their set is full of energy, wit, and antics! They’ve toured around the globe, performing in New York, Montreal, Sydney, Dublin, and many a Fringe festival.

Kunst Rock (Art Rock) is the name of their 3rd CD. Described by the Montreal Gazette as a “lipstick-smeared, tantrum-loving, sonic collision between the B-52s, Kraftwerk, and early Ramones”, you won’t find another Berlin band out there doing what they do.

I’ve seen them during several Vancouver International Fringe Fest shows (and even had the pleasure of sitting down to interview them ahead of last year’s Fringe).

The show is on now, with tickets starting at only $16. Check them out, and get ready to rock!

Venue: Historic Theatre at The Cultch
1895 Venables Street (at Victoria Drive)

Dates: August 2-13
August 2-6, August 9-13: 7 pm
Two late shows will be performed on August 6 and 13 (at 10 pm)
