Australia

Tourism Western Australia is urging international visitors to keep their travel plans to Western Australia, which has been unaffected by Australia’s recent devastating bushfires.

The agency is working to promote the message that the State continues to be open for business. Bushfires to the east of the country have attracted international attention which has led to an inaccurate perception that the whole of the country is affected.

In some cases, international media coverage has misrepresented the geographical reach of the fires. This coverage has not reflected that Australia is a very large country, equivalent to the size of North America.

Australia is a huge country and it is tragic what is happening in some parts of Australia, but Western Australia is absolutely open for business. – Paul Papalia, Western Australian Tourism Minister

Visitors who have already booked, or are planning travel to Western Australia, can find the most up-to-date information via Australia Tourism’s travel alerts page.
