On Tuesday, March 29, Small Business BC will present its Successful You Awards Ceremony. In its 8th year, this event recognizes BC’s most important small business leaders. To date over 1,600 entrepreneurs have competed! Businesses include technology, the arts, retail trade, manufacturing, and recreation.
The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver from 5-8 pm. Tickets are available online.
This year’s keynote speaker will be none other than Vikram Vij, of Vij’s Restaurant and Vij’s Rangoli. Obviously needing little introduction, Vikram will share his story of how Vij’s grew from a small, local South Granville eatery to the well-known successful brand that it’s become today.
Successful You nominees had the opportunity to share their nominations through Facebook and Twitter, to get the votes in. Voting and nominations ended on December 15th, 2010. The final votes were calculated and normalized according to 2009 British Columbia Regional District populations in order to create an equal playing field for all entrants.
A panel of judges reviewed the top 10 small businesses in each category, who were later narrowed down to the top five in those categories. Finalists were asked to present a 10 minute business pitch, with judges being able to ask questions following their pitch. The top finalists can be found here.
I think it will be a great opportunity to network with the other 400+ entrepreneurs, contest nominees and finalists, award sponsors, industry professionals and media attending this popular annual event!
