Starlight Sparkle Gala-12

On Saturday evening, I attended the Starlight Sparkle Gala. The Performance Works theatre space, one that I’ve come to know and love through both the PuSh and Vancouver International Fringe Festivals, was magically transformed into a sparkly, festive atmosphere.

Guests were greeted at the entrance with a glass of champagne, followed by a colourful array of appetizers that flowed throughout the course of the evening. A cash bar was available for wine.

A silent auction, raffle, and 50/50 ticket tables were set up while musicians Lesismore performed. Emcee Rita Rogers of Canucks Sports and Entertainment came on stage to introduce Sam Sullivan, who captivated guests with her bittersweet tale of Finn, her lively and courageous son who lost the battle to cancer at the age of three.

I’d heard about Finn through my husband’s participation in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. For the past two years, a huge team of cyclists wearing Team Finn pink jerseys can be found at the start line.

The story came full circle for me when I heard Sam tell the story behind both the Finnspiration Bear (a co-production of twin brother Baird and sister Sarah), and Finn’s love for life. I’m certain I wasn’t the only one to shed a tear when Sam was through.

A fashion show featuring Jacqueline Conoir’s beautiful couture brought the festive evening to a close, with dancing on the catwalk, dessert trays, and coffee. It was an evening to remember, and I’d highly recommend going to this event next year.

Good coverage! I like the food pix. I did the Ride to Conquer Cancer last year and saw the Team Finn army of pink jerseys. So much dedication to a worthy cause!
