HOSCanada opening-6

If you can make your way to UBC’s Chan Centre later this week (and weekend), you’ll be rewarded with the 27th Pacific Coast Swiss Singing and Yodeling Festival, otherwise known as Saengerfest 2011.

The festivities take place from June 23 to 26th and this year, the Vancouver Swiss Choir and Swiss Society of Vancouver are hosting the event. Some of the highlights will include Thursday night’s Midnight Yodeling by a Swiss yodel club, and a grand concert on Friday evening at 8 pm.

From the event’s blog, it looks like Saturday’s all-day folk fest would be a great introduction to yodeling. A few of Saturday’s events include:

– 13 individual performances by choirs from Canada, USA, and Switzerland
– One-to-five voice yodels, alphorns, and Talerschwingen
– Children’s program (with adult supervision)
– Kim’s Modi Schwyzer Orgeli Kapelle from Korea

Visit either the event blog or facebook page for details and ticket information. This is sure to be a unique Vancouver experience as well as a terrific photo op!
