During each Vancouver Fringe Festival performance, audience members are handed a ballot on their way out in order to rate the show. Piles of these white ballots eventually land at the Fringe Fest office. Yesterday afternoon, they were tallied and shortlisted. Of those selections, Fringe Fest judges chose the five Public Market Pick of the Fringe shows and announced them at last night’s Fringe Awards Night.

In the Boudoir
A young clown’s love life can be messy—but this delightful mess from Summer Shapiro is bound to make Fringers of all ages laugh out loud! New York comedienne Summer Shapiro came to Vancouver with a deceptively simple story of a young female clown’s love life, veering erratically between exactitude and befuddlement, control and rashness, beauty and broke.

The Adversary
Andrew Bailey reveals what it’s like working at a Victoria church shelter, picking up needles before Easter egg hunts and confronting street justice. “Another mature, insightful, and often funny monologue from Victoria’s Andrew Bailey, who deserves more Fringe fame than he has.” — Winnipeg Free Press

Venue: Goldcorp Centre for the Arts at SFU Woodward’s, 149 West Hastings Street, Vancouver

Hockey Night at the Puck and Pickle Pub
Ryan Gladstone and Monster Theatre are no stranger to the Pick! Ryan Gladstone and Jon Paterson play all the characters at the Pub, including a couple of cougars, CBC sportscasters Jim Hughson and Kelly Hrudey, and themselves as they write the play! “A lot of research obviously went into this show, dense with hockey players’ names, stats, and history. But you don’t need to know the sport to find it funny. There are plenty of potent gags for even the most hockeyphobic.” — Jerry Wasserman, The Province
