Patagonia’s recently opened a 3,500-square-foot store in Vancouver’s Kitsilano, on West 4th Avenue aka outerwear heaven. They’ve got great company on that shopping street along with North Face, Icebreaker, and Arc’teryx.
The company stands behind protecting our environment, donating time, services, and at least 1% of sales to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups around the world who work to help save the great outdoors for future generations.
The spacious interior showcases seasonal coats, fleece, pants, hoodies, and shirts as well as a range of accessories, books, and bags.
Trying on a few parkas in the winter collection, I fell instantly in love with the Vosque 3-in-1 Parka, a casual, slim-fitting coat with a nylon/polyester blend shell that has a tweed texture similar to Lolë’s Stunning 2 Jacket (read my review here).
The two-layered, waterproof breathable shell falls just above the knee and is super cozy and comfortable, suitable for cold, windy city nights as well as on trips to mountain resorts.
The parka’s detachable insulated ripstop zip-out shell is insulated with eco-friendly 100-gram Thermogreen 100% polyester made of 90% recycled material. On warmer days, remove the liner and wear the shell on its own. The third option for wearing the Vosque is its beautiful liner with horizontal quilting and front darts that gives a less bulky puffy coat appearance.
The Vosque has a double storm flap, two-way center front zipper, zippered collar, and removable, two-way adjustable hood (sides and back). The shell has front darts, a centered back seam, a yoke at the shoulder for a contoured fit that I find both flattering and functional.
It’s also treated with a durable water repellent (DWR) fabric finish, perfect for protecting against the cold during rain and snow showers. In fact, I feel ready to tackle whatever winter throws my way, be it rain, sleet, snow, or wind.
– Outer rain shell has smooth lining that glides well over sweaters
– Shell is securely attached with a full inside zipper, plus back of neck and cuff fasteners
– Easy to detach and reattach the layers
– Two on-seam hand-warmer pockets made with a soft material
The parka is available in Black (dark grey shell), Fatigue Green (cream shell), Blueblack (similar-coloured shell), and Rockwall (slate grey with purple shell). I’ll be taking the Vosque into a much chillier part of Canada in February to run it through its paces, so stay tuned for a part two of my Vosque parka feature!
Patagonia’s Vosque retails for $469 at the new Vancouver store at 1994 West 4th (at Maple) as well as online. I’ve also seen it sold at MEC.
